Benifits of Training and Development for an organization
Organizations may have training and development as well as learning strategies established. But it is understood the way forward and to sustain in the current market is, that employers shall constantly train their employees in the organization. (Kyndt et al, 2009) explains; “if employees feel they aren’t learning and growing, they feel they are not remaining competitive with their industry peers for promotions opportunities and career advancement. Once top employees feel they are no longer growing, they begin to look externally for new job opportunities”.
Also the organization decides and plans the training which is relevant to their product, for the employees. They shall decide which training the employee shall undergo depending on the necessity. To achieve the expectations of the organization, training will guide the employee to gain knowledge and thrive towards the common goal set by the organization. The workload stress may lead the employee to grow fear and irritation which they are not familiar. Training may help to overcome these issues they face (Alexandros, Sahinidis and Bouris, 2007).
Sims (1990) explains some key points how training is benefitted to an organization;
· Leads to improved profitability and/or more positive attitudes toward profit orientation.
· Improves the job knowledge and skills at levels of the organization.
· Improves the morale of the work force.
· Helps people identify with organizational goals.
· Helps create a better corporate image.
· Improves the relationship between boss and the subordinate.
· Organization gets more effective decision making and problem solving.
· Provides information for future needs in all areas of the organization.
“The best way of outlining these benefits is to appraise training, as an investment the organization makes in employees. That investment pays dividends to the employee, to the organization, and to other workers” (Werther and Davis, 1996).
The organization currently I am working is a leading airline in the country. The department I am attached is inflight service delivery which is the core of the organization. With approximately a number of 1200 cabin crew members, the department is blended with different types of employee personalities. In order to maintain the standards to compete in the region, a comprehensive consistent training and development programs are carried out in a frequent manner. These training programs can be identified as;
· Safety and Emergency procedure training.
· Inflight service training.
· Safety and service refresher programs.
Change of business trends is constant in aviation industry.
In order to be the market leader in the region, it is necessary to train the
crew frequently on the changes take in place. Therefore, training and
development is an important division for the department. Training division
shall update the crew and make arrangements to carry out training sessions as
at when needed.

ReplyDeleteAgreed with your views and employee performance might be seen as the outcome of congruence between training and development and organizational goals. Thus, there is a strong positive connection between employee training and development program and organizational performance. ReplyDeleteAdding more the benefits. Organizations are getting success with retaining employees when they are offered to employee development programs. An effective design of training program can also increase retention among employees. Employee retention is a volunteer move by organizations to create an environment which involves employees for long term (Chaminade 2007).
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Shihan. further I would like to add Arnoff (1971) observes that training and development foster the initiative and creativity of employees and help to prevent manpower obsolescence, which may be due to age, attitude or the inability of a person to adapt him or herself to technological changes. According to Obisi (2001) training is a process through which the skills, talent and knowledge of an employee is enhanced and increased.
